PreSet® Hub Assemblies utilize pre-adjusted bearings to simplify installation, improve seal and bearing life and reduce maintenance requirements - resulting in improved overall vehicle performance and lower-life cycle cost.
The success of the PreSet hub is due to the use of a spacer to positively set the bearing clearance, and the addition of qualified long life seals. The hub and all of the components in the hub are precisely machined to exacting tolerances, including higher precision bearings. The optimum bearing setting is guaranteed and retained for the serviceable life of the entire hub assembly. This process eliminates the need for the traditional manual wheel end adjustments that can cause excessive bearing preload or endplay. Excessive preload can result in premature bearing failure while excessive endplay can result in wheel seal wear, ultimately leading to oil leakage and contaminated brake linings.
PreSet Hub Assemblies are pre-assembled so they arrive ready for installation. While conventional wheel ends contain separate components — which must be precisely aligned and adjusted during installation — PreSet Hubs install in minutes, by simply placing the complete subassembly on the axle spindle, and torquing the retaining nut to 300 ft-lbs. There is little risk of misaligning or damaging components during installation — a major cause of premature seal failure.
